WASHINGTON (Jan. 8) - President-elect Barack Obama said Thursday the recession could "linger for years" unless Congress pumps unprecedented sums from Washington into the economy.
"I don't believe it's too late to change course, but it will be if we don't take dramatic action as soon as possible," Obama said in a speech set to be delivered at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., outside Washington. Excerpts from his prepared text were released in advance by his transition team.

this bailout situation has now become almost laughable, if it didnt make you want to cry...i am hopeful that john mccain and his group (to eliminate all pork from the budget) will be very successful in all attempts to rid not only the pork barrel programs, but those who are promoting them from the government..pet projects, as they have become known..some are so obscure they dont even bear a moment's worth of time...others are makework projects that those promoting them, hope will get them re-elected when the time comes. cut all unnecessary spending, including some of obama's own healthcare and specialized schooling projects, which would benefit very few and jeopardize the majority.
